Maersk A/S, an entity under A.P. Moller - Maersk, and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have mutually decided to end the 2M alliance, which is scheduled to expire at the beginning of 2025, following a thorough evaluation process.
Maersk cites its dedication to improving logistics networks and customer accessibility as the cause. Maersk declares it can respond more effectively to changing customer requirements, such as the importance of reliability, flexibility, and sustainability in all aspects of logistics. "MSC and Maersk admit that much has changed since the two companies signed the 10-year agreement in 2015," A. P. Moller - Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc, and MSC CEO Soren Toft say in a joint statement. The termination of the 2M alliance allows both companies to follow their own individual strategies.
We have greatly appreciated the collaboration and look forward to keeping our strong collaboration for the rest of the agreement term. "We stay fully committed to providing 2M alliance services to MSC and Maersk customers."
The 2M agreement, introduced in 2015, is a vessel-sharing arrangement for container shipping lines (VSA) between Maersk and MSC to assure competitive and cost-effective operations on the Asia-Europe, Transatlantic, and Transpacific trades. The 2M has a minimum duration of 10 years and a 2-year notice period for termination.
